Based in Brooklyn and San Francisco, From David Designs was founded unexpectedly in 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. What began as a solo venture has grown organically through collaboration, trust, and word of mouth; a reflection of the care, intention, and personal attention we bring to every project.

As Founding Principal, I lead a team of seasoned architects and interior designers specializing in residential renovations. While our work spans all types of homes, our true focus remains constant: the people who live in them.

For me, renovations begin with the emotional and psychological needs of the people who inhabit a space. From that clarity, a home can be elevated through thoughtful planning, timeless design, and personal detail. Over the past 15 years, my experience has spanned high-end architecture, interior design, graphic design and teaching architecture & AP Art; skills I now bring together in custom home renovations.

Our Team

David Phan

David brings over 15 years of experience in residential architecture, interiors, and renovation planning. Before establishing the studio, David worked with high-end residential firms including Winder Gibson, Cass Calder Smith, Richard Beard Architecture, and Workshop APD. His approach is rooted in listening closely, understanding how people live, and creating homes that feel thoughtful, personal, and deeply considered.

Sudeshna Sukla

Sudeshna is captivated by the intersection of architecture and emerging technology. As a registered architect in California, she takes joy in the ongoing process to adapt. Her broad range can be seen through the 12+ years in hospitality, commercial, mixed-use, and high-end residential projects. Her drive is to create inquisitive placemaking for people to live, to work, and to dream.

Nathan Reed

Nathan showcases a robust design range that includes a modernist gambling hall, a dining art gallery, a hip-surfer cafe, high-end hotels, a concept sports bar, and an award-winning Italian restaurant. His 15+ years in interior design continue to fill him with curiosity and astonishment. His diversity is only matched by his fantastical inner world and fashion sense.

Sebastian balances the tightrope of artistic creation with detailed construction. He has a natural eye for curating layered spaces and blending architecture styles. With 10+ years of experience in varied sized firms, Sebastian embraces collaboration to execute on both the macro and micro. He immerses himself in the fine arts and mixed media; painting for art galleries and residences.

Madeleine Lofberg

Madeleine weaves charisma and sharp wit with deadly precision. No matter what task she manages, she inevitably boosts the mood of both the internal teams and the external correspondence. As the office mama bear, the team is at ease with her protection. She offsets her time with mixology and writing. Be on the lookout for her upcoming New York Times Best Seller!

Our resident Snack Stakeholders oversee office morale, greet visitors, and ensure no lunch goes unmonitored. Toby (black) is quiet, mysterious, and capable of seeing into your soul. Dewy (white) is playful, affectionate, and happily unburdened by deep thought. Together, they specialize in furniture testing, zoomies, and advocating for more treats.
